Sophus channels his emotions and memorable episodes of his life;
friendships, loves & hardships dance together with subtle energies and
spirits which are enmeshed into the flowers like a barely perceived aura.
The natural pigments in muted tones, earthy inks, and charcoals are
mixed with human matter to corroborate his weaving of threads and
stories into the canvases. These resemble delicate still lives of a
distant and primitive future.
Sophus has sewn into each canvas a magnetic element which allows the work to
be hung effortlessly, offering spontaneity and participation. He views his work as
precious and protects it by encasing it in silicone. He wants us to touch and get
close to the work. The paintings are raw, hand-stitching and frayed edges openly
demonstrate the processes, materials and technique.
The artist deals with depth and intensity, he fully immerses himself into his work.
From a very young age he’s always found an urge to create, resourceful he can
pick up any craft or manual art. “I feel like a flower” From the Tibetans on the
journey to Nepal he learned about the importance of innocence and ecstasy.
His being is primal and sacred, simultaneously whimsical and deep. On constant
quest for the real and the raw, there’s a fine line between psychosis and enlightenment
and he walks the line not scared of falling in either camp. Betrayal sent him
spiraling into self-mutilation but he was not singed: he went into the fire but he
never got burnt. Near death experiences leave him unfazed, only beauty and his
people/community touch him. He’s rarely a man of words more of action & vision.
He’s fascinated by the human mind, life for him doesn’t grow less but greater with
the years, it’s not a diminishing scale its a crescendo, leading to epiphanies and
revealing his true self. But also remembering impermanence of human existence
and death: all things shall pass.

Limbo is a platform for creative minds and artists, it starts in 2014 and ongoing,
constantly evolving and moving forward – it's an extension of Sophus's practice
branching out into various activities : performance, music, poetry, art and life.
